A major difference in the functioning of a developed country like USA and a developing country like India is the lack of identity proof for their citizens. The good news is India is on the same line. Aadhaar card has been recently launched for the citizens of this country. These cards are free of cost and act as a major identity proof for them.

What is Aadhaar?

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) issues the Aadhaar card as they are the authority. The identity proof is neutral in its approach, as the system generates a 12-digit number automatically irrespective of the religion or caste. Every citizen can have only card throughout the life. The government wants to make this venture compulsory but has not been able to do it yet. So the banks do not want to make it compulsory as well.

The UIDAI centres take your essential documents like identity proof, residence proof and date of birth proof. They need to be self-attested. Once the documents are collected and submitted, you are likely to get your official card in 60-90 days via post.
